“My one piece of advice is to be brave.”

At St Sebastian’s Primary School Yeronga, courage, care and a love of learning are at the heart of our community — and these qualities are beautifully reflected in our new Acting Principal, Mrs Leigh Hopton.

We are delighted to welcome Mrs Hopton into this leadership role. Known for her warm, approachable style and genuine commitment to students, she brings a calm confidence that helps children feel supported to grow, take risks and believe in themselves.

Working alongside Mrs Hopton is our dedicated leadership team, including Assistant Principal Religious Education Mr Patrick Casey and Primary Learning Leader Ms Danielle Johnston. Together, they support a strong, connected school community, with a shared focus on nurturing each child’s learning, wellbeing and sense of belonging.

Mrs Hopton is passionate about nurturing lifelong learners and creating a school environment where every child is encouraged to develop both academically and personally. Her focus on building strong foundations, paired with a deep sense of care for each student’s journey, aligns closely with what makes St Sebastian’s such a special place.

Outside of school, Mrs Hopton enjoys spending time with her children and niece — something that speaks to her strong values around family and connection, which carry through into her leadership and the community she fosters here.

We are excited for our community to continue to grow under Mrs Hopton’s guidance and look forward to the positive impact she and her leadership team will have on our school.

We warmly invite families to come and experience St Sebastian’s for themselves — join us for an upcoming Principal Tour and meet Mrs Hopton in person.
