Students at St Sebastian’s Primary School are putting their faith into action through community outreach initiatives that support people experiencing hardship across Brisbane.
Throughout Term 2, students led an appeal for Rosies – Friends on the Street, collecting food items and warm drinks for people experiencing homelessness and loneliness. Seven bags of donations were collected by the school community.
Year 6 students William, Elizabeth and Lelayna helped champion the initiative, encouraging their peers to think about the impact of small acts of kindness.
“Rosies is about helping people who are lonely,” said William.
The school has now turned its focus to the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal, with support from Brisbane Catholic Education’s Policy and Performance Team, who donated blankets, beanies, socks and other winter essentials to help launch the campaign.
Principal Leigh Hopton said the initiative showed students the difference they can make when people work together to support others.
“It’s about the impact we can all have when we work together,” she said.
As the Winter Appeal continues, students, families and staff are invited to donate blankets, scarves, gloves and other essentials for those in need.
Through opportunities like these, St Sebastian’s students are developing empathy, compassion and a commitment to serving others—values at the heart of our Catholic school community.
