Active School Travelhttp://www.stsebastiansyeronga.qld.edu.au/Whats-on/Pages/Active-School-Travel.aspxActive School Travel<p style="text-align:justify;"> <img class="ms-rtePosition-2" alt="activeschooltravel.jpg" src="/Whats-on/PublishingImages/activeschooltravel.jpg" style="margin:10px 15px;width:232px;height:115px;" />Thank you for a wonderful start to our participation in the Brisbane City Council’s ACTIVE SCHOOL TRAVEL program or as we call it at St Sebastian’s “Stampin’ Thursday”! This is our second year in the program that promotes clean and green, active and healthy school travel modes such as walking, cycling, carpooling and public transport. By leaving your car at home, at least one day a week on our active travel day, we can reduce traffic congestion at the school gate, improve road safety, create a cleaner environment, save money and improve our health and fitness. All students are encouraged to actively travel to school - walk, scooter, ride or carpool. A survey will be taken each Thursday by our school leaders and is then provided to the Council. Each fortnight a certificate will be awarded to the class with the best Active School Travel result. Olearia were the winners for last week and they received a Star Trophy and certificate which they will hold for a fortnight. Karin and Anna  are our parent reps on the AST committee with the students leaders, teachers Naomi Smith and Samantha Hind, Lea Gamble from BCC and Councillor Nicole Johnstone and myself. Thank you for your support of this great initiative in our school.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Further information regarding the Council’s program can be found at: </p> <div><a href="http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/traffic-transport/public-transport/school-transport/active-schooltravel-program">www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/traffic-transport/public-transport/school-transport/active-schooltravel-program</a> <br> </div> <div style="text-align:justify;">Walk - Leave the car at home and walk your kids to school. If you live too far away, drive part of the way and walk the rest. We call that “Park and Stride”.</div> <div style="text-align:justify;">Carpool - Find a friend and carpool to school. It’s an easy way to save money and time. Talk to other parents in your child’s class or street to see who is going your way.</div> <div style="text-align:justify;">Cycle - Ride with your children to school. It’s legal to ride on the footpath and remember to always have your helmet secured.</div>
We Need You!http://www.stsebastiansyeronga.qld.edu.au/Whats-on/Pages/We-Need-You.aspxWe Need You!<p style="text-align:justify;">Parent engagement is a vital part of our Saint Sebastian’s Community.  Without our parent group, we would not function as a school. We are grateful to be gifted with an amazing parent body who work tirelessly to support the school in the education of our children. Our Parents and Friends Committee work alongside the school to provide funds to support a range of school needs; our school laptops, our presbytery upgrade and school sign, are just a small sample of the ways the school has been supported. Our Year 5 and 6 student leaders attend a biennial trip to Sydney and Canberra as part of the curriculum. This event also is supported by our P&F who assist to reduce the costs for parents.  Student participation in some of our sporting events has been made possible through the work of our parent body support.</p> <div style="text-align:justify;">Our Parents and Friends are always looking for new support. Meetings are welcoming and informative and run for around an hour and a half. If you haven’t already, we encourage you to make the first step to become involved. They are held from 6:30pm in the staffroom on the third Tuesday of each month, unless notified otherwise.</div> <div style="text-align:justify;"> </div> <div style="text-align:justify;">If meetings can’t be attended then please feel free to help in other ways. Our fabulous mother’s Day High Tea was supported by a band of helpers and participants and a funfilled afternoon was had by all. We have our up and coming fete on 14 October and all hands will need to be on deck to support this event. Helpers are required in the tuckshop through serving the students, or by assisting to provide home baked treats. Sausage sizzle Friday would not be able to continue without parent support. (On this note, we thank you for your response to last week’s call out for help-the money was balanced and more parents have volunteered- this is an ongoing need, however). Teachers are regularly looking for assistance in the classrooms, or maybe you can contribute to our Care and Concern group through the occasional provision of a meal for a family who might be in need of a helping hand.</div> <div style="text-align:justify;"> </div> <div style="text-align:justify;">So, what is it I am saying? We need you. I firmly believe that the joy you take from any experience is related directly to the effort that you put in. This includes involvement in community. We understand that many parents work and have busy lives. That has become the norm in 2018. But there are many ways you can help. Even if you are free for one sausage sizzle a year, we encourage you to put your hand up. Your child will love having you visit. Our community will welcome you but most importantly, the benefit you make to the function of the entire community will be vital.</div> <p style="text-align:justify;"> </p> <div style="text-align:justify;"><img width="800" height="532" alt="weneedyou.jpg" src="/Whats-on/PublishingImages/weneedyou.jpg" style="margin:5px;width:354px;height:236px;" /> </div> <div style="text-align:justify;"> </div> <p style="text-align:justify;"> </p>
Kiss N' Go Zonehttp://www.stsebastiansyeronga.qld.edu.au/Whats-on/Pages/Kiss-N'-Go-Zone.aspxKiss N' Go Zone<p style="text-align:justify;">We have a new name for the Pick Up Zone! it is now Kiss n’ Go. Our aim with the new name is to remind parents this is the area where you car can pull up, child disembarks from the car and when safe to do so, the car pulls out from the kerb. If you wish to park your car and walk into school, please park in other areas in the surrounding streets. It is imperative for child safety that this zone, indicated below by the yellow arrow, is kept clear of parked cars. You will note on Rome St North that this area is marked with a Loading Zone - 7am-9am and 2pm-4pm - 2minute standing sign at each end. We appreciate your co-operation with keeping this clear of parked cars and allowing for a smooth drop off/collection of your child each day.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">It is also VERY HELPFUL for the teacher on duty in the afternoon in this zone to have your FAMILY name printed on a card and displayed on the passenger side sun visor. The Teacher will then have your child ready and waiting at the pick up bollards.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Thank you<br></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><img alt="KissNGoZoneFull.jpg" src="/Whats-on/PublishingImages/KissNGoZoneFull.jpg" style="margin:5px;width:546px;" /> </p><p style="text-align:justify;"><br> </p>
