What's on at St Sebastian's

Book Fairhttp://www.stsebastiansyeronga.qld.edu.au/Whats-on/Pages/Book-Fair.aspxBook Fair<p style="text-align:justify;">This happens twice a year, at the start of the year, around Feb/March and at the end of year around Oct/Nov. It will go for 3 days, Wednesday – Friday during school drop off and pick up times. Students will create their wish lists, return them to the parents for editing, receive money to purchase books and receive the book immediately.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Any payments online for the book fair, must be returned during the fair to ensure correct processing. Please do not order or return payment for a book AFTER the fair, as I cannot guarantee the book will be in stock.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Last year the school raised over $2,600 to be spent by the teachers adding to our library and school resources. We appreciate your support with the Book Fair and Book Club and all proceeds go directly back into the school. Up to 40% of money spent on each book goes back to the school.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Scholastic Book Club and Book Fairs are completely run by school volunteers. If you would like to assist, please let me know. Any questions or orders, please feel free to contact me.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Ruth - 0424 066 063</p>
Active School Travelhttp://www.stsebastiansyeronga.qld.edu.au/Whats-on/Pages/Active-School-Travel.aspxActive School Travel<p style="text-align:justify;"> Free smoothie anyone?</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Head down to the Norman Creek Bikeway at Greenslopes on Saturday 17 March and you can pedal your own smoothie! Cycling Brisbane, Brisbane City Council's program to encourage people to ride more often, is running its first In Your Neighbourhood event.  Bring your bike for a free safety check, and find out more about bike routes in the local area. You can also try an electric bike and learn more about the events and workshops Cycling Brisbane runs. There will also be a guest appearance from Active School Travel’s very own Ryder. Click here for full details on how to get your free smoothie at Norman Creek Bikeway (beside the Monkey Bar cafe and playground alongside Baron Street) from 8-11 am on Saturday 17 March.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Further information regarding the Council’s program can be found at: </p> <div><a href="http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/traffic-transport/public-transport/school-transport/active-schooltravel-program">www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/traffic-transport/public-transport/school-transport/active-schooltravel-program</a> <br> </div> <div style="text-align:justify;">Walk - Leave the car at home and walk your kids to school. If you live too far away, drive part of the way and walk the rest. We call that “Park and Stride”.</div> <div style="text-align:justify;">Carpool - Find a friend and carpool to school. It’s an easy way to save money and time. Talk to other parents in your child’s class or street to see who is going your way.</div> <div style="text-align:justify;">Cycle - Ride with your children to school. It’s legal to ride on the footpath and remember to always have your helmet secured.</div>
We Need You!http://www.stsebastiansyeronga.qld.edu.au/Whats-on/Pages/We-Need-You.aspxWe Need You!<p style="text-align:justify;">Parent engagement is a vital part of our Saint Sebastian’s Community.  Without our parent group, we would not function as a school. We are grateful to be gifted with an amazing parent body who work tirelessly to support the school in the education of our children. Our Parents and Friends Committee work alongside the school to provide funds to support a range of school needs; our school laptops, our presbytery upgrade and school sign, are just a small sample of the ways the school has been supported. Our Year 5 and 6 student leaders attend a biennial trip to Sydney and Canberra as part of the curriculum. This event also is supported by our P&F who assist to reduce the costs for parents.  Student participation in some of our sporting events has been made possible through the work of our parent body support.</p> <div style="text-align:justify;">Our Parents and Friends are always looking for new support. Meetings are welcoming and informative and run for around an hour and a half. If you haven’t already, we encourage you to make the first step to become involved. They are held from 6:30pm in the staffroom on the third Tuesday of each month, unless notified otherwise.</div> <div style="text-align:justify;"> </div> <div style="text-align:justify;">If meetings can’t be attended then please feel free to help in other ways. Our fabulous mother’s Day High Tea was supported by a band of helpers and participants and a funfilled afternoon was had by all. We have our up and coming fete on 14 October and all hands will need to be on deck to support this event. Helpers are required in the tuckshop through serving the students, or by assisting to provide home baked treats. Sausage sizzle Friday would not be able to continue without parent support. (On this note, we thank you for your response to last week’s call out for help-the money was balanced and more parents have volunteered- this is an ongoing need, however). Teachers are regularly looking for assistance in the classrooms, or maybe you can contribute to our Care and Concern group through the occasional provision of a meal for a family who might be in need of a helping hand.</div> <div style="text-align:justify;"> </div> <div style="text-align:justify;">So, what is it I am saying? We need you. I firmly believe that the joy you take from any experience is related directly to the effort that you put in. This includes involvement in community. We understand that many parents work and have busy lives. That has become the norm in 2018. But there are many ways you can help. Even if you are free for one sausage sizzle a year, we encourage you to put your hand up. Your child will love having you visit. Our community will welcome you but most importantly, the benefit you make to the function of the entire community will be vital.</div> <p style="text-align:justify;"> </p> <div style="text-align:justify;"><img width="800" height="532" alt="weneedyou.jpg" src="/Whats-on/PublishingImages/weneedyou.jpg" style="margin:5px;width:354px;height:236px;" /> </div> <div style="text-align:justify;"> </div> <p style="text-align:justify;"> </p>
