On Monday evening, interested parents and caregivers joined
together with Bernadette Kay from Catholic School Parents
Queensland and the school to begin our exploration of the
development of a P&F charter. We began this process at the end of
2021 when we moved to a financial model of the P&F.
Bernadette spoke to us about the desire of parents and schools
across Queensland to establish and/or refine ways to partner. In our
2023 world, things have changed. Whilst the original purpose of the
P&F association was to partner with the school for the benefit of the
students, in many cases, fundraising and the associated pressures
became the focus. Whilst fundraising can be a part of this process –
it doesn’t have to be the only way.
Bernadette spoke about different models operating in schools across
Queensland. This sparked animated discussion around possible
ways parents could engage to support the learning and teaching
within the school. The excitement in the room was tangible.
A meeting has been planned on Tuesday, 21 March at 6:30pm for all
parents and caregivers interested in joining us on this journey. Pre-
readings and an information flyer will be sent out early next week.
