St Sebastian’s Primary School has achieved a remarkable milestone, surging 81 places to secure a spot in the top three schools in Brisbane south, according to the latest 2025 NAPLAN results.
A recent analysis by The Courier-Mail revealed that St Sebastian’s rose from its previous ranking of 84 last year, improving its average score by 15% to 559.6 across reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and numeracy.
Principal Angela Moore expressed pride in the school community:
“Throughout 2025, we have focused on helping students become assessment-capable learners, assisting them in their personalised learning journeys. This provides our students with confidence and a deeper understanding that enables them to answer questions for in-class assessment or for NAPLAN as the national test.”
The school’s success is attributed to a strong emphasis on teacher capability, explicit reading strategies, and evidence-based approaches to literacy.
“St Sebastian’s has adopted effective, evidence-based strategies for explicit reading instruction. Students are assisted with critical literacy skills essential for their academic and future success,” Ms Moore said.
These strategies have been supported by professional learning communities, ongoing data analysis, and the effective use of technology, ensuring students are consistently exposed to high-quality instruction.
This achievement highlights St Sebastian’s commitment to academic excellence and its vision for empowering every learner.
