The P&F run a before school athletics development program. This involves a Run Club program where students run supervised, around Yeronga. There has been great improvement in student's times since this program began. The other programs are Sports Specific training and Fitness Enhancement training. These programs start at 7.30am and have groups for Prep-Yr 2 and Years 3-6.
Sports singlets are available for purchase. These can be worn to training and also used at Catholic Zones Cross Country Carnival and Catholic Zones Athletics Carnival each year.
Before school chess lessons are available during term time. Classes are held in the library. A qualified external instructor comes to the school for the lessons. We also have a volunteer who visits the school weekly to teach chess to the students from Year 2 - Year 6.
Children from Years one to six at St. Sebastian’s are warmly invited to join in the fun and magic of before and after school, Speech and Drama classes.
Speech and Drama classes at St. Sebastian’s will develop your child’s creativity, voice and communication skills through role play, improvisation and text work. The confidence enhancing classes are tailored to each child’s needs whilst encouraging team work and problem solving.
Special Assembly items, Eisteddfod work and AMEB exam preparation are also available at the Teacher’s discretion.
Children’s specific interests and ideas will be garnered through a series of Intro Drama Games from which a suitable pre-text will be chosen as a springboard for the term. Each class will enable the child to participate in small group, large group as well as individual work.
Every class will start with a vocal and physical warm up and include a speech activity such as tongue twisters, breathing exercises or speaking activity focussing on variation of pause, pace, pitch or volume.
Group classes are conducted by: Elecia Pikusa Registered Teacher in Qld, Member of the Communication, Speech and Performance Teachers Inc.
