St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal & Romero Centre

Today the children have all enjoyed coming in free dress to school and participated in lunchtime dances in the Undercroft, in an effort to support the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. Thanks to our Yr 6 leaders, in particular the social justice group, who helped coordinate the day. I would also like to mention a group of girls in Yr4 who have also been outstanding in their desire to support this day. We have some outstanding future leaders coming through. Due to the rain at break time today, both age groups participated in the dancing for both breaks! double the fun.

Today we accepted the donation of blankets, and also invited families to contribute to St Vinnies’ Winter Appeal via Qkr. Should you still wish to make a donation via Qkr it is not too late to do so. Blankets can also still be forwarded to the school after Thursday. These will be forwarded early next week to SVdP.

On Tuesday, my car was chock-a-block full of donations that had been collected to support the Romero Centre, a Mercy Community Service, that endeavours to support refugees to Australia. I delivered these donations to the Romero Centre at Dutton Park, and they were most grateful for the support of the St Sebastian’s community. The Romero Centre specifically support people seeking asylum who face complicated challenges and uncertain futures.

Their individualised case management service enables people seeking asylum to access the right mix of support and expertise. They provide and connect asylum seekers living in Brisbane with practical support (like food and shelter), legal connections, English classes, medical care, trauma counselling, community events and more.

They share their journey and help make their life easier.

The Romero Centre asked me to pass on an invitation to our community to participate in an event called “Welcome Walk” in Orleigh Park, West End on Sunday, June 20. More details can be found at their website,

Thank you to all families in our community that have contributed to either of these very worthy causes.
